Commercial roof insulation is an important layer of materials placed below the membrane on the roof to make a barrier against the external environment elements such as heat, cold and moisture. There are three main types of commercial roof insulation, including Thermal blanket, Thermal spray, and R-values. Thermal blanket has been used for decades. This is the most affordable type of insulation and is made from fibers of wool, cotton or synthetic materials. These fibers are woven tightly in a special manner to form a tightly wrapped blanket. During hot weather, the blanket traps cool air within its fibers thus keeping the temperature at a constant warm level. Conversely, when cold weather approaches, the blanket immediately begins to expand and take in heat from the environment.

 

Thermal spray insulation is comprised of a sticky liquid solution that is applied directly to the roof surface. The liquid is sprayed onto the surface to insulate the surface and increase the level of warm air available. These kinds of insulating materials can be applied to all different types of roofs. They can even be applied to new roofs after they have been installed. With this type of roofing, you will get a longer-lasting, more energy efficient option than most other types of material.

 

A thermal barrier is one of the most effective ways to keep heat or cool air inside a space. Thermals serve to decrease the rate at which heat escapes and increases the rate at which heat stays within a room. There are two primary types of thermal barriers. The first, the dynamic, works on any change in temperature. The traditional barrier systems, such as fiberglass, drywall, and aluminum, are not as effective as a membrane. Moisture will travel through any barrier, regardless of its material. A membrane will form what is called a vapor barrier, which stops any moisture from moving in. As long as the barrier doesn't have any gaps or holes, it will remain effective. Because of its ability to stop moisture and air movement, polyiso membrane is preferred over traditional materials such as fiberglass and drywall. With an R-value of only 0.6, polyiso is by far a more effective solution for preventing heat loss or warming in the attic space of a commercial building.
