Best Destination to Travel in 2024

There are some truly fantastic destinations out there waiting for you! From Cartagena

There are some truly fantastic destinations out there waiting for you! From Cartagena, Colombia to Georgia's Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, each location has its own unique set of sights and activities. So, in this guide, we'll take you on a virtual tour of some of the most exciting destinations you may visit in 2024. If you're curious, take a quick look at these amazing sites and start planning your trips.

Ålborg, Denmark.

Ålborg, Denmark's fourth-largest city with over 120,000 population, may appear an improbable international travel hub due to its remote location. That has not deterred Scandinavian Airlines, which is betting on the compact, attractive city with freshly inaugurated flights from Newark Liberty International, which will operate three times per week from April to October. The cobbled lanes of Ålborg's old town are surrounded with half-timbered buildings and pastel exteriors. The tastefully rebuilt waterfront, where you'll find the newly renovated Pier 5 Hotel, is another walking zone. The city's vibrant cultural environment includes a modern art museum and an architecture centre.

Cartagena, Colombia.

Colombia, a perennially popular vacation, is now emerging as a luxury escape, thanks to a flurry of activity in and around Cartagena, on the country's Caribbean coast. Casa Pestagua, a 16-room boutique hotel housed in a refurbished 17th-century mansion in the historic centre, will open in 2023. The same owners plan to open bungalows on Isla Barú, a popular day-trip destination, by the end of 2023. Blue Apple Beach, an eco-hotel on Tierra Bomba Island, right off the coast, is B Corp certified and generates half of its power from solar.

Eastern and Oriental Express, a Belmond Train.

After a four-year hiatus, this luxury train that travels throughout Southeast Asia will resume service in February. Several new itineraries will be accessible on the redesigned Express, which features 15 cherry wood-clad cabins and vivid Malay-inspired décor. The Essence of Malaysia adventure, for example, takes travellers from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, with stops in Langkawi for snorkelling at Pulau Payar Marine Park and Penang, one of the world's best cuisine cities. Alternatively, a Wild Malaysia tour includes a trip at Taman Negara National Park, where guests may see a Sumatran rhino or tiger. "These'slow travel' journeys give our guests the opportunity to rest their mind, rekindle, and reconnect," stated Belmond CEO Dan Ruff.

Germany

Football, or should we say fußball, will take over Germany for one month in June and July as the country hosts the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship. The tournament for men's national teams will be held every four years in ten locations throughout Germany, including Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich. "This will be an incredible, not-to-be-missed moment," said Sofia Markovich, a travel expert from T+L's A-List who specialises in Austria and Germany. "I expect interest to go through the roof as this is a major sports event — second only to the World Cup." Even casual fans, Markovich said, should find the atmosphere exciting, especially if they happen to pass by game-day destinations while travelling the country's rivers.

Métis Crossing, Alberta.

"This is not a place where you look at old things behind glass," explained Juanita Marois, CEO of Métis Crossing, one of Canada's most appealing Indigenous tourism ventures. "This is an immersive destination where you experience the culture and the warmth of the Métis people through our land, water, skies, buildings, food, and programmes." The 688-acre retreat, which writer Carleigh Baker described in T+L's October 2023 issue, now houses a 40-room lodge, a cultural centre, and campgrounds. Depending on the season, visitors can learn about traditional crafts, attend on-site events, or go bird viewing, canoeing, or snowshoeing.

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Georgia.

It's not every day that the United States gets a new national park, but this central Georgia site might join the ranks by 2024. Ocmulgee, which is now managed as a national historical park, is home to huge earthen mounds, including temple complexes, built by thousands of Native American peoples throughout the centuries. If Congress approves the new designation in 2024, Ocmulgee will become the first national park in the state and the first in the United States to be co-managed by a tribe whose ancestors were forced to leave the area: the Muscogee (Creek) were forcibly relocated from central Georgia as a result of the Indian Removal Act of 1830.

Rajasthan, India.

Rajasthan, India's northern state, is well-known among American travellers for its landmark hotels and cultural sites. It also promises additional joys in the next year, including numerous new Jaipur addresses worth visiting. There's Villa Palladio, a beautiful nine-room hotel on the outskirts of town built by the Swiss-Dutch duo behind Bar Palladio, a popular Instagram spot in the city centre. The Johri is a wonderfully constructed five-room hotel with a stylish cocktail bar and organic vegetarian restaurant on the ground floor, nestled in a history townhouse in Jaipur's Old Town. Meanwhile, Anantara Hospitality Group plans to open its first facility in India next year.

Shinta Mani Mustang, Nepal.

A once-forbidden realm is now home to some really luxurious digs. Nepal's Mustang area, which opened to visitors in 1992, is a must-see in 2024 because to this spectacular 29-suite hotel, which welcomed its first guests in August. Shinta Mani Mustang, the latest addition to the Bensley Collection, provides the luxury wellness experiences and intelligent design that fans of the brand have come to expect. Guests can spend their days exploring the nearby Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, looking for rare animals like the Pallas' cat and Tibetan wolf, horseback riding, and visiting local communities.

Tallinn, Estonia.

This country's literacy and secondary education rates are routinely among the highest in Europe, particularly among women, so it should come as no surprise that Tartu, the university city southeast of Tallinn, has been named Europe's Capital of Culture for 2024. Still, for first-timers to the Baltics, Tallinn is the finest place to start: its walled Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved examples of Mediaeval architecture anywhere. PoCo Art Museum, which opened in May with pop art by Andy Warhol, Banksy, David Hockney, and Jeff Koons, is now one of the city's roughly 50 art institutions, alongside Fotografiska (world-renowned photography) and the Kumu Art Museum.

Warsaw, Poland.

The burgeoning contemporary art scene in Warsaw, which includes art-circuit veterans such as the Foksal Gallery Foundation and Raster Gallery, will receive a significant boost in 2024, when the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw finally settles into its new headquarters. Despite operating in temporary facilities, the museum has helped to improve the city's art profile for the past two decades, with collections of both foreign and Polish work. The new headquarters will be part of a 22-acre cultural area centred around the existing Palace of Culture and Science, a Stalinist skyscraper that stands tall over the city.

These were some of the best places to visit in 2024.
